Honey FAQ / Support
- What is raw honey?
This means our honey hasn’t been pasteurised or passed through ultra fine filters. The honey that we supply has been as the bees have produced, allowing the flavours from the nectar to flow through in each and every jar. Pasteurisation and ultra fine filtering removes pollen and beneficial enzymes from the bees, thereby reducing it’s natural antioxidant, antifungal and antibacterial properties.
- How long can honey last without going out of date?
Honey has been found in the ancient tombs of the Egyptian Pharaohs and it was perfectly edible after 3000 years. We do put a ‘Use by’ date on our honey as a preferred date of consumption must appear on the packaging. However honey can continue to be consumed after the date as long as it is kept in good condition.
- My honey has crystallised, is it still good to consume?
All honey will form into granulated crystals over time. Refrigerating your honey will accelerate that. If this ever happens then just place the jar in warm water or place in a microwave-safe container with lid removed. Then microwave at medium heat for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between sessions.
- Why is supermarket honey cheaper and, how does it differ from your natural honey? Most honey that’s sold in supermarkets has been through the heat pasteurisation and ultra fine filtering process to aid in filtering and shelf life. Also the honey industry has been plagued by cheaper imports from the East where sugar syrup has been added to honey, driving the cost down. Unfortunately the percentage of sugar syrup is enough to make it still legal to be classed as honey. Our honey is 100% honey with no additives straight from the hives to you.

How do I keep my honey in good condition?
Keep the honey container tightly closed and do not expose it to very high or low temperatures. It’s not necessary to put honey in fridge store in a dark cupboard or pantry away from heat sources ideally room temperature of 18-27deg Celsius.
